The Relationship Between Perceived Ethnic Discrimination, Heart Health, and Coping Among African Americans

This study includes an in-person follow-up taking place in the Phoenix, AZ area. If you are not able to attend this Part II portion of the study, your data will be deleted.

This study is designed to look at how ethnic discrimination, a person’s responses to these situations, and a person’s heart health are related.  Participation is completely voluntary, and you can stop at any time. If you do not come back to complete this research study, your data will be deleted. You will not be penalized if you choose not to complete the study. 

Your answers will be privately recorded and kept confidential, and your responses cannot be linked to your identity. Your information would only be needed if you request to find out about the results of this study. 

The completion of this research study would take about 90 minutes. During the study you will be asked about your demographics (sex, age, gender), 

To be part of this research study, you must be black or African American, born in the United States, be at least 18 years old, younger than 28 years old, and be able to read and write at 6th grade level or higher. You also need to know how to use a computer. If you do not think you are able to do any of the requisites mentioned above, you will not be able to participate in this study. 

Participants will receive a $50 Visa gift card as compensation for their time after completing Part II of this study.
